The new icon for the Dietary Guidelines 2026-2030, a new inverted pyramid that encourages consumers to eat real foods rather than ultra-processed and refined carbohydrates.
This poster showcases a range of colorful, delicious options for nutrient-dense, minimally processed foods, grouped by category in a similar shape.
- The protein section includes seafood, fish, poultry, meat, eggs, nut butter, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, and tofu. Many are fresh, but some are canned.
- The fruit and vegetable section is filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as some that are dried and include frozen and canned.
- Whole grains include brown rice, oats, quinoa, farro, whole-grain pasta, and whole-grain bread.
It also guides people to eat fewer refined foods with added salt and sugar and provides the recommended protein intake per pound of body weight.
The Dietary Guidelines and New Pyramid recommend 3 servings of vegetables, 2 servings of fruit, adequate protein (2-3 servings for most people based on weight), 3 servings of dairy, and 2-4 servings of whole grains each day. This poster highlights the variety of foods available for those servings.
It is a positive, new contribution from the 2026-2030 Dietary Guidelines with serving suggestions for each group.
Most Americans consume up to 55% of their diet from ultra-processed foods. Studies show that these foods may not be beneficial.
Many of our health professional readers agree that the message "eat real food" is the best part of the guidelines, so we have presented it in a beautiful, positive visual for further discussion with the audience.
