8 Applications for Health Kids Adults Wellness Weight Loss Program

When you need to look your very best now...

The 8 Applications for Health is a fun, effective way to educate kids and adults so they can better their health and lower their weight, and it follows the recommendations from the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Four major action steps recommended by the Dietary Guidelines for the American public are:

1. Reduce the incidence and prevalence of overweight and obesity in the US population by reducing overall calorie intake and increasing physical activity.

2. Shift food intake patterns to a healthy diet, emphasizing vegetables, cooked dry beans and peas, fruits, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. In addition, increase the intake of seafood and fat-free and low-fat milk and milk products and consume only moderate amounts of lean meats, poultry, and eggs.

3. Significantly reduce intake of foods containing added sugars and solid fats because these dietary components contribute excess calories and few, if any, nutrients. In addition, reduce sodium intake and lower intake of refined grains that are coupled with added sugar, solid fat, and sodium.

4. Meet the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.

This new program, by Hollis Bass, MEd, RD, and Food and Health Communications, Inc. incorporates these actions steps with a modern technology theme. It is sure to capture your audience's attention while you teach them valuable information about relevant topics for today's consumers:

  • Exercise, eating out, beverages, portion control, healthy food choices, nutrition facts labels, fruits and vegetables and a healthy lifestyle use the messages from the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
  • The 8 Applications lessons hit on common behaviors that stem from today's high speed world but need to be revised for better health as recommended in the 2010 Dietary Guidelines.
  • Most people don't read food labels, make poor choices from eating out too much, drink calorie-laden beverages, don't stay active, and don't understand the importance of diet and exercise for better health.
  • But they will understand your important message when you entertain and educate them with this fun 8-lesson theme with very modern graphics and stunning photos.
  • A visual message is so important, and we have done all the work for you.

Flexible: Use the 8 lessons over 8 weeks, 8 months, or whatever you need for your program. We have put it all in one big show and only provided what is actually needed - here is exactly what they need to know! They can learn the most important points in a hurry.

Put adults and kids back on the same theme: Best of all there are two versions - one for the adults and one for the kids so you can teach parents and their kids the same messages - everyone will go home on the same page. You know that teaching one without the other simply doesn't work.

Receive everything you need for a stunning 8 lesson program: You receive both the kids/teens and adult versions of the program with your purchase, making this lesson very flexible and relevant to all audiences. The show includes TWO 125+ slide shows with speaker's notes and TWO sets of handouts. They are written by a dietitian and chef and put together by a graphic artist and photographer. Imagine how much this would cost in terms of your time just to write it, never mind search for, and purchase, photos and clipart that look this good. We want you to look great and spend the time with your customers or promote your business - not spend hours and hours fiddling around with bullet points and canned clipart.

Perfect for your audience: Potential audiences are parents, kids/teens, teachers and school administrators, healthcare professionals, and employees.

Question: what is the difference between the 8 Applications of Health and Steps for Kids?

  • Steps for Kids is a hands-on program that teaches kids to be more independent with shopping, cooking, label reading, kitchen math, food safety, nutrition, and exercise. There is a lot more cooking. It is a great class for working with kids for a long time so they can be independent and make great choices.
  • 8 Applications of Health is an easy-to-deliver program with a concurrent adult program (for parents) on the basic lessons of the Dietary Guidelines. It teaches how to eat out, read a food label, move more and be on the screen less, eat more fruits and veggies, etc. It is a good overview of a healthy lifestyle for people on the go, and it has a fun "smartphone app" theme.

Here are notes from our author, Hollis Bass, MEd, RD, LD:

"The 8 Apps PowerPoint show was written so that it could be used with tweens and teens, with or without adults (we also have the 8 Apps for younger kids, which was done the same way). There is some background information that you can choose to omit if the audience is on the young side and no adults are there. Since weight management is a family effort, I would probably advise people to try to include parents and kids together, with the exception of older teens who have more control over what they eat and drink and might do better without their parents in the room. I based much of the show on my experience working with overweight children (ages 7-13) and their families, I do not have data showing results. Only anecdotal evidence that when kids and families follow guidelines like these they tend to see results. Following the guidelines is the key!"
